Unless there is a transmission with a clear neutral, one cannot tow an electrically driven axle whether by wheel motors or chassis motor(s), Turning electric motors generates electricity which causes problems.

My BEV's SHIFTER has a "neutral" position, but it does NOT disengage the transmission gears, it only shuts off power to & from the motor, but maybe that would be okay.

I have coasted in Neutral for a cumulative hundreds of miles in my i-MiEV with no signs of problems. Neutral leaves the motor physically connected to the wheels and spinning, but shuts off the drive inverter. So far, it’s effortlessly handled open circuit voltage from the motor at speeds as high as 75 MPH, shifting in and out of Neutral (electrically disconnecting and reconnecting the motor) with no complaints.

So for towing, the i-MiEV community has agreed that towing the vehicle powered up but in Neutral is safe, and that likely applies to many other EVs as well. However, don’t take that as advice to do it. I prefer having the car on a trailer with all four wheels off the ground.

I would like to know how torque vectoring, anti-slip in snow & off road, ”tank turns” etc. work differently with 3 wheel vs. 4 wheel vehicles. I would also like to know if there is a different cruising efficiency when adding the 3rd wheel motor other than just the added mass. Lastly, can wheel motors be towed or must they be trailered.

Line 327 of Aptera's FAQ Spreadsheet says the 3rd motor is "a few %" less efficient.

FWD Aptera has about 233% as much snow & off road traction as most FWD cars which work well in snow. They have about 60% front weight, & plain differentials. Aptera has 70% front weight, & effectively limited-slip diff, with hub motor traction controlled every 2.25" of tread movement (1/32nd of a rotation).

"Tank turns" require sliding the rear end sideways at least a bit, & Aptera has the advantage there as well, with only one tire that has only 30% weight on it.
