@Kerbe #12705 Yes, I too heard "same drag as a 12-inch cube".
I meant overall efficiency: 10mi/kWh = 337MPGe.
Aptera's drag coefficient is "only" about 169% as good as your examples of the current best, BUT with less frontal area, Aptera might still have 250% better total drag.
@kiteboarder Do you mean aerodynamic efficiency or overall efficiency? The current aero champs are the MB A-class and the BMW 5-series, both of which have a Cd of .22 - the Tesla M3 and MY come next at .23.
@Daniel Watkins Literally Lmfao: I hear you in the background saying "Frameless wipers?". As if the entire Aptera with the same drag as BAD wipers wouldn't still be fantastic.
@Kerbe #12705 We're definitely going to need wipers of some sort. My regular vehicle needs a few swipes every so often to get rid of bug splatter on the freeway or when I am overtaking a semi in heavy rain.
@Mark Langenhoven Apparently bug splatter will be a thing of the past with Aptera - but highway "rooster tails"? Most def! Also mist and drizzle at speeds under 45: Even with an application of RainX there's a point before which moisture doesn't bead up and run off!
Perhaps some of the questions and answers they didn't get to will end up in the FAQ. Aptera is clearly interested in engaging with us over ideas and opinions.
@n.bruce.nelson As usual, though, about half the questions were off-topic - and some VERY basic, like "will it have AC and heat" and "will we need to wear helmets"...
@PV1 off to the races at 12Mb/s upload. Thanks Comcast. In the future I won't be uploading since looks like Apterawill be posting the full meeting every time. May still record in case they're recording wrong
@Daniel Watkins My recording is basically my iPad sitting in front of my MacBook, so it has background noise and people walking around, not something I want to upload. I'll go through it tonight and post the highlights here.
@Daniel Watkins I posted my summary notes as a reply to your top comment. I'm really glad I recorded it as I only got to see half of it live. For a rainy day, work sure was hectic.
If I wake up early enough, I will and upload. anyone know if screen is not blocked out if trying to screen capture on Android phone while running zoom?
Highlights from the webinar. References to "original" cars or prototypes are for the typ1/2e prototypes from the 2007-2011 era.
1. 10,000 reservations
2. 150+ Brand Ambassadors in 84 countries
3. Still on target for first deliveries by end of year
4. New website with vehicle config, learn more about features, and see production time estimate.
5. New investment opportunities coming
6. There were 7 Original Prototypes from 2010.
7. One of the originals was silver in color.
8. Tesla mobile connector is used to charge the Noir prototype.
9. Original goal/ethos was to showcase extreme aerodynamics, inspired by shark profile.
10. Less effect from crosswinds due to aero profile.
11. Very stable platform, feels like driving a 4-wheeler.
12. No convertible, as roof is major structure part.
13. Roof structure on original car sprang back into shape after roof crush test.
14. Core structure weighs 190 lbs., total car at 1,800 lbs.
15. Hail and dent proof body.
16. Hemp-based fiber for most non-structural and semi-structural panels
17. Shell is designed to return to original shape after minor collisions.
18. Autocycle classification in US
19. Researching adaptive suspension
20. Refinements allow for more passenger room, more battery room, and slight improvement in aerodynamics from Noir to upcoming Sol prototype.
21. Plan is to build another 10 vehicles this summer, then to testing, and hopefully production by end of year.
22. Aiming to meet passenger vehicle certifications and safety specs
23. Researching polycarbonate windows to save weight. Able to use polycarbonate due to the vehicle being an Autocycle, but this depends on material performance.
24. Working on flash cure epoxy that allows a part to be produced every 5 minutes.
25. Vehicle can be torn down in a few hours with a handful of tools.
26. Expecting the battery size to half within next 5 years with similar capacity
27. Coating/UV inhibitors to protect polycarbonate panels
28. Paint film for extra protection, replaceable if scratched
29. Negligible aero hit with windows down at lower speeds
30. Aero flow simulation accurately predicted turbulence on the left tail of the car. String placed on the car flapped as the software predicted
31. Top and bottom structure click together and get bonded, two side panels attach and form the main structure.
32. Cars will be mostly handbuilt
33. Interior is insanely quiet at speed
34. Working to bring Aptera to Europe, challenges with vehicle width
35. Hoping to have side cameras, regulation seems to have changed, but no confirmation at this time.
36. 4 jack points to lift vehicle
37. Rear fin is a jack point
38. Air exhaust channel in rear fin from battery compartment. (My speculation, air cooled battery?)
39. 3 wheel design has less rolling resistance
40. There were 563 people on the call.
41. Replaceable front/rear bumpers on rear skirt, robust suspension.
42. Motor wires only visible on Noir prototype
43. Suspension is cast aluminum
44. Aptera, inc. is passionate about right to repair, car is designed to be worked on and tinkered with. “3 wrenches and 6 allen keys to tear down.”
45. 4-wheel vehicle next
46. The crew is not fans of change for sake of change.
47. Send an email to info@aptera.us for Aptera ambassador program inquires.
48. (Speculation) There was a mention of it being called Paradigm in the video, so maybe the final model will be called the Aptera Paradigm instead of just being an early trim model. Not sure on this.

LoL... Also a site like clean technica or something said in their article that it doesn't have wipers...
From the Aptera Motors FB page - at about 6:45PM Central on April 1...
First they claimed the same drag as Ford mirrors, then they claimed the same drag as wipers, & then repeated that last claim again.
Even if their repeated update is wrong, having the same total drag as mirrors-only is phenomenal!
Even if it has the same drag as 4 mirrors, the bottom line is it is 250% as efficient as the most efficient current car.
@Kerbe #12705 Good point, but MY point is actually that THE WHOLE CAR HAS ONLY AS MUCH DRAG AS WIPERS!
@Daniel Watkins Literally Lmfao: I hear you in the background saying "Frameless wipers?". As if the entire Aptera with the same drag as BAD wipers wouldn't still be fantastic.
"With 3 wrenches & 6 Allen keys you can take apart the whole car".
Exciting about the new website and the new features it will have --- thanks for recording and posting!
I was expecting more presentation and less random Q&A - although Sarah did try to keep the questions on-topic so there was some good info shared!
part 1 of 2: https://youtu.be/5UAYZR-XPKE 2 of 2: https://youtu.be/F3NfleH16Xc and YouTube channel Apterareboot should have it as well soon.
I recorded the webinar at a quality that I can summarize, but I'm sure others will beat me to it.
I like the picture.
