My Lotus Elise is a wonderful driver’s car and has now power assist steering, brakes or anything else. I love the feel of it’s directly connected steering. The Elise is a 2000lb car and the steering is fine at any speed, just a bit more effort at a standstill. I hope there is no Drive by wire involved. Give me a direct connect to the steering, the brakes and the gas, the way it should be, especially with such a light car as the Apter. No need for all the assistance, just pure driving pleasure.
I'm pretty sure every car has a direct mechanical connection, it's just ASSISTED by power (hydraulic in old cars, electric now).
I still prefer unpowered steering when practical, such as in a light vehicle like my Fiat 500e, where the power assist is too strong so I pulled the fuse. It's a bit heavy at zero mph for parking, so I get a 5-second workout, & then the rest of the time it just feels fine, instead of twitchy. Aptera is about 30% lighter, so it should be fine with a properly-designed mechanical linkage only.

No power steering so direct. Low speed steering will be aided by independent wheel motor “vector“ control.
