A lot of hunters chasing the same tiger. So...Light Year has a 60KW BAtter and goes 440miles. Aptera goes 600 miles on the same size battery but only has two seats where the Light Year has at least four.
The Sion has solar cells on all exterior surfaces, but only charges 21 miles vs. the Aptera's 40. No contest here. But of course at least four seats. Sion has bidirectional charger that can share battery power. Something that elicits vigorous discussion our forum
Of course neither car has pricing or projected production availability. Therefor at this point, more vaporware than substance.
I still believe Aptera has the advantage of efficiency, maturity of technology implemented in second gen prototype, target production schedule, and projected cost. MORE REAL
And all done on a shoe string budget with demonstrates effective and very efficient management
Admiral Yamamoto, after the attack on Pearl Harbor, said "I fear we have woken a sleeping dragon" and of course he was right. I think the same concept applies to GM and their entry into the EV market place. They will bring tremendous resources both engineering and financial. and with Mary Barra's leadership will methodically ascend in the EV Market Place. Tesla, BMW, Volkswagen, and other legacy car companies will be impacted the most. Hopefully, Aptera will stay on their production schedule and achieve market penetration before GM gains momentum. They are still a large and ponderous company. They have no marketing target for the current version of the Aptera so I think Aptera will slip under their radar for a while.
However, Mary Barra, their CEO has turned them around and they are quickly transitioning to efficient engineering, financial, and management processes. They will effectively manage their world wide networks of sales, distribution, and services. Mary has a background in Six Sigma Process improvement and Lean Enterprise and has instilled those paradigms in her management team or has offered them the chance to seek other opportunities.
Thanks!! I didn't know there was another vehicle in development using solar panels to help charge the batteries. Sounds like the same concept of Aptera but choosing to make the most efficient vehicle with FOUR wheels. Interesting...
Couldn't agree more 91. Be advised that Aptera's timeline includes the creation of a 4 wheel sedan design rendering by the end of 2021!!

@Otrain54 another Solar EV, not comparable in design, but with solar on all surfaces and new almost invisible solar surfaces ...
