Daymak’s Futuristic Line of Electric Cars Rakes in $378 Million in Pre-OrdersSleek, black, glossy, and futuristic, the Avvenire line of electric vehicles by Daymak features everything from the expected (an e-bike) to the dubious (a flying car). Some of these vehicles are almost ready to hit the market, while others are still little more than vaporous concepts, but that hasn’t
I would be interested to know what $352M of the $378M in pre-orders coming from "wholesale" means, and only $26M of that total coming from individuals.
This is going to be an extremely interesting next few years ahead for cars and EVs in general. Just the possibility of 3 wheel vehicles becoming more widely accepted will be a big leap if it occurs, though that is becoming more of a possibility for people who can fit within their characteristics.
As the number of Aptera three wheeled EV competitors increases, so does differentiation on what customers may find to be most important and/or several companies may survive who have met the need of a large enough, long term subgroup. "First mover advantage" will likely not mean much 10 years from now regarding which companies survived and thrived vs. which ones became footnotes in automotive history. In fact, it could be a disadvantage to be a first mover since follow-on companies get to learn and adapt from the expense and experience of the pioneers. With Aptera, Sondors, ElectraMeccanica, Daymak, Nobe, etc. all proposing three wheeler EVs, part of it will of course also be determined by which can even see the light of day beyond drawings and prototypes.
Aptera is still far ahead on the tech specs such as range, efficiency, solar panel charging, and cargo space. Plus it looks cool. Nonetheless, broader-based customers don't buy just on specs alone and want a car that is useful all around for their personal needs, which of course vary a lot between people. Aptera's potential competitors offer better lateral field of view, easier parking/fit into regular car spaces, and Sondors is proposing 3 seats, as examples. So, "get out your popcorn to watch" since it will be interesting to see how this all unfolds over the next few+ years! 😊
