I think I understand your concept. Please correct me if I am wrong, but what happens when you are turning? Does the mirror turn as well? Unless it doesn't, it may be dangerous when changing lanes, or entering the traffic lane when parallel parked. I am hoping for a modern camera design which can be adjusted by interior joystick, and have adjustable zoom settings. This is for all three mirrors. It would be great to have a back-up camera with cross traffic view, especially from the right, to be used when inching backwards out of a perpendicular parking space with large vehicles blocking your views.
there can be mechanical connection to the part of the suspension that doesnt move left/right with the wheel when turning, to keep the mirror facing one direction.
@Kerbe #12705 Sorry, my bad, I should have said millimeter wave radar.

Unpopular viewpoint ahead:
I for one actually think a physical mirror as a fail-safe mechanism is both: easily doable, while still preserving aerodynamics, and smart, for obvious safety reasons. Why can't we integrate rear view mirrors into the fenders and covered by smoothly flared plexiglass? FMVSS rules for heights of mirrors and such don't apply to motorcycles.
I do realize this increases parts count by 6 or so (2 mirror sub-assemblies and their mounts); plus increases casting/shaping complexity for fenders a bit by having to integrate a mirror cavity. Or more simply: It could be an insert with edge trimming to simplify, but wouldn't look as nice as properly molded & finished.
As far as I know, it is still illegal for side cameras instead of mirrors. The Tesla truck is still trying to pass legislation. It won't affect the Aptera since it is not a car. Motorcycles can have cameras; I have one on my EV motorcycle.
@OceanDragon It's all about semantics: Cameras are NOT illegal - it's not having mirrors that's illegal in most of the US. There's nothing illegal about having cameras AND mirrors - it's just needlessly redundant.
What I cannot find is any mention of the results of this three-year-old study.
