Realistic delivery date for this year?

I hear you Craig. I thought Elio was going to be revolutionary as well. From an engineering standpoint, I couldn't figure out why he tried to develop his own engine. Otherwise the concept was good. I feel the same way about the Aptera but also have thoughts of some of the engineering design issues. I am hoping for things to fall into place for them and make a lot of this forum's members happy. Even if I had to wait two years to receive my Aptera, the time will be used to test out the first year's cars and refine any issues. I am a strong believer in not buying into any first year production models not only in cars, motorcycles, or electronics. I really don't want to be one of the beta testers. If Aptera is successful, production will certainly be ramped up for the general public to obtain one. So at this point, let's just hope for the best

@OceanDragon I agree that the extra year f development will result in a better Aptera for people buying Aptera. As a Paradigm preorder holder, I will be talking some risk. I am at an age where getting the car a year sooner could make a significant difference in how long I will be able to use it. A far as the Elio comparison, Paul Elio never had a background as a "car" guy and didn't have significant engineering expertise around him.

This is in sharp contrast to Aptera. With "right to repair"it is likely that significant developments in the features and performance of Aptera will be available to upgrade early vehicles.

I am really glad to be a pioneer and early supporter and not just because of my personal needs. My career in environmental instrumentation tells me the world needs to adopt products like this as quickly as we possibly can.

The final assembly is supposed to happen at their San Diego facility - not sure if you call that a production line.

As I understand the plan there will just under 20 "stations" on the Aptera line. It will be patterned after the Viper line shown in the video below

There seems to be no shortage of money to be thrown every which way these days.

The design does not require stampings or a paint shop. Most assembly steps are designed to not require automation. Motors, batteries and other major components are likely to come from outside suppliers. Production, at least initially, will be much less capital-intensive that the usual production line.

It'll be, like, an "artisanal" car.

The link to their original public investor presentation is still be available on their Wefunder site. It says their plan was to take a year to ramp up production to 10,000 units per year. So I didn't expect more than half that amount to be made in 2022. However, Nathan mentiond in his last interview that they now plan to be up to full production volume by June of 2022. So that means 5000 in the 2nd half of 2022 and ramping up exponentially in the 1st half of 2022. Up to 10 in January. Up to 50 in February. Up to 100 in March, etc.

Being #20116 means you are about 10,116 from the front of the line. That's about 6000 behind me. However, some (how many?) will cancel their orders.

On the other hand, there are bound to be more delays. Have you ever seen a multiyear project for ANYTHING stay on schedule? For one thing, their next round of funding has been delayed by over a month in the last several months. We've also heard of part delivery delays.

I'd guess you could get yours about mid-2023. Or maybe 6 months later.

@Harry Parker My WAG is that of the 11K deposits now, there will be around 3-4K real orders. There'll be an ongoing concern if they can't deliver that by the end of 2023.
