That top one does look like a camera, but not the side view mirror replacement. Perhaps it is part of the 360 degree auto driving system or the sentry system or a proximity sensor? The side view mirror camera is just where the side view mirror would be, as can be seen on a few other images.
Chris mentioned the 3 spots in a row in a video this week. They are programmable LEDs and they are still deciding what to do with them. They are using them now to indicate battery charging state. Anybody got a better idea for them?
@Harry Parker I think you're on the money - that top spot does look like a side camera or proximity sensor of some sort.
If the charge port is on the tail, why would you want an SOC array on the side of the vehicle - so you could see it from a distance? Wouldn't it be easier to just check the charging app on your phone? When I'm charging my PHEV on a networked public charger I receive notifications from both the car AND the charger.
I like the idea of the dots serving other purposes: Popping the door, popping the hatch, setting the alarm - something of that sort. At one point Chris said, "You touch here to open the door" and indicated a spot somewhere in the general vicinity of the three dots.
I really hope that the new Aptera will have side video mirrors. It seems odd that we have autonomous driving features - but we can't get video mirrors for the driver to use, approved.Your guess is as good as mine on the 3 circles - maybe they are an optical latch release for the door? Swipe over them and it releases the door latch?
The 3 dots next to the logo are lights signaling the opening / closing of the door as explained by the designer in the Zoom meeting.
3 dots lighting up from bottom to top - door opens. Down - door closes.
The top cam should recognize your hand waving down - close, up - open. Given the key / phone is in your pocket.
These cameras could double as security lenses too, like Tesla???
I think that the spot on top is a camera and the 3 dots are just led lights, usable for charging???

Could be sensor to measure door opening distance like on the Model X
