I use “purple mattress” type seat cushion for my MGA and Miata and they provide me my over the dash vision of the road in front. I am used to standard vehicles of today and they seem to provide manual adjustment and the cushions provide me the comfort. With several camera providing access to all areas around the vehicle does not require the driver to make adjustment of the sitting area for safe driving. With longer battery charges in Aptera means more time in the driver’s seat, so better seat Comfort is very important!
I’m all for the option of unbolting the seat to permanently raise it. Hopefully they will manufacture the seat anchors with that in mind. I would rather save the weight. I will send on the suggestion to info@aptera.us for the LA Auto Show..By November they should have a near production ready vehicle.
I think, given that we are discussing seating, that the goal should be to get this vehicle under the public's asses!
Edited to add: I think there was a reply in a Q&A about height adjustable seats to the effect that the seats will not have height adjustment as usually seen in cars, but seat height will be adjustable by unbolting the seat, repositioning the seat on its mountings and bolting them back in, semi-permanently. This might be a problem if drivers of vastly different sizes routinely use the car, but still strikes me as a good compromise to save weight.
Hi SirThomas. The ergonomics of a vehicle varies with a lot of factors (as you might have already experienced with other cars). Seat adjustability and seatback rack play into it as well as steering wheel height and extension. Some cars even come with adjustable pedal blocks. Unfortunately no one on this forum has even seen or sat in a prototype model. I was under the assumption that the final seat and their adjustability has yet to be decided. The standing height alone is not the pure indicator of fit which will also be determined by ones proportions. What I am saying is that don't just go by a standing height measurement of an individual where leg and arm length are additional data to be provided. Kind of like buying shoes on the Internet; nothing beats a trial fit in a store, since each brand has their own sizing characteristics.
My wife has a thin “backside” and is fine on short drives in our vehicles ”butt”😉 for long trips we had to get her something that makes her ride more comfortable. A thick silicone seat cushion was her solution. We chose an open hexagon version, which actually works well with the vehicles heated and cooling seats!
I wouldn’t say “no one on this forum has seen or sat in a prototype”
But even if we posted that “experience”... to your point.... this is only the prototype
And we only have the the early alpha development vehicles “ under our seat” and being improved
@Len Hi Len. My point exactly about having sat in anything that will be a final production dimensions and configuration. No use comparing any prototype which will have a different seat or steering wheel geometry. I am familiar with the silicon hexagon cushion. Another good option is the one used for long term use in wheelchairs with the air pillars. I recommend them to patients all the time.
@Len Any way you can make our case to Aptera that we really would like to sit in a unit, preferably at the LA Auto Show. It is still months away, in November. I think it would be very positive for those who have pre orders and the investors. What say you?
They said in the FAQ they are targeting the size of a typical 6’7” man
They are just engineering the beta version now , with claim of more room ( hip area to door was one area they mentioned, as well as general distance driver to passenger mention on a video with Chris and Podcaster Nikki Gordon Bloomfield (Transport Evolved) , viewed on line

Best to direct that one to info@aptera.us as I am only a hopeful future owner too.
I would think anywhere in CA would be easier for them, at this point, rather than out if state at this point.
But with the improvement planned on Beta vehicles do they want to get one closest to their production unit at the “really big show”?
But you are right … get this unique vehicle under the public’s noses !
