@Dan Roberts FLIR is just that... An IR tuned camera/sensor. When available it will greatly enhance safety and reliability of automated driving systems.
Eg at night, in low light, no light, and in obscured light (heavy rain, fog, etc)
It's plausible Telsa's abandonment of Radar and Lidar maybe to adopt a visual spectrum IR spectrum hybrid.
The video linked shows an option to display an IR image enhanced to present as a visible spectrum image.
If it is free and won't add to the cost of the car, by all means yes. If it will delay production then no. We can always find more things to add to this cycle. Most of them will add weight, costs and production time. Maybe it could be added as an accessory? Thanks
Sandy is working with Aptera and so ti can be sure they are aware of FLIR...
It would make a great option... I can see it adding value in the years ahead.
Cameras are great. Cameras can be “tuned” to see different spectrums. Tesla has more or less proven that vision is the way combined with AI.
