NOTE: a couple USB plugs would address most people. Some laptops work from USB-C. I need 120AC and use a 12V adapter to power my pro laptop (75w.)
Something to consider is PLACEMENT of multiple USB ports given the various gadgets people try to plug into them and how they can be hit or damaged or pulled out because of poor placement. Also people would likely use C to A adapters which turn into a lever to multiply port strain.
A glove box port is nice for a flash stick that is rarely removed. Such as default music storage; my friend uses his for tesla security cam storage, also he doesn't have enough usb ports in his model 3. (dash cams could use a port too)
My volvo has the 12V port vertical near the ash tray. It gets full of grime and is a poor location for all my uses of the port; I frankly don't think smoking should influence where the 12V port goes... it's going to be used for high power adapters which may need ventilation (as my 120AC adapter does.)
I caution against making assumptions based on personal experience about most people's needs. I would also point out that adapters are easily and cheaply available to run USB devices from 12 v. plugs, whereas to the best of my knowledge no similar device exists which can power a portable freezer from a USB.
