So, Doug Demuro just released a video today talking about the Speedtail, and I'm noticing just how similar it is to the Aptera, even though the one being reviewed is about $4 million dollars. The Aptera, however, is better than the Speed tail, though some will think the Speedtail looks better.
Similarities come from the side view cameras with screens located in the same places, the window style, the doors, the front wheel covers, electric motor, both vehicles have 0-60mph in ~2.9 seconds, the thin aspects of the rear end, and possibly the 3 seats in front as well (though it would be better if Aptera could place the passenger seats on one side and driver seat on the other.
The differences: Aptera has better drag coefficient most likely (even though the Speedtail has the lowest of any McLaren ever made)
Aptera has lower weight (~1,800 lbs vs 3,153 lbs)
The Speedtail can only be charged with a wireless connector, no plug in capability
Aptera has solar and full electric, and never has to be charged
Aptera will have better infotainment system and level 2 autonomy
Aptera windows lower substantially more
You can go camping in an Aptera lol
Cost (~$29k for AWD vs $3-4 million)
etc
etc
Speedtail has top speed of 250 mph, but that wouldn't matter to 99.99% of people (you'd go to jail for driving that fast on the hwy, if the road is even clear enough to do it in the first place).
Aptera wins vs Model 3 as well. I'm considering making a Youtube video comparing Aptera to other cars but I'm lazy.
Tesla comments aren't trolls, I have a Tesla and I'd bet that's lots of people on this forum also have one. Tesla is the benchmark by all other EVs are measured. I've made a number of posts where I've talked about things that Tesla has done right and that I think Aptera should copy and things that I think Tesla has shortcomings that I'd like to make sure that Aptera doesn't copy, the lack of adjustability in the seats and seat belts for example. Anyone who has an EV, Bolt, Leaf, ID.4, should be adding their likes and dislikes while the Aptera is still in flux and decisions have yet to be made. It's also reasonable to bring up EVs that are in a totally different price category, Lucid and EQS for example, because those are real EVs, the luxury elements don't apply but the EVness does. As for McLaren, I make no apologies for crapping on that, it doesn't advance the state of the art in anyway, it just exists to extract money from indolent Saudi princes. I don't feel that way about Rimac, they are contributing to the future.
