Tesla Inc.'s Model 3 sedan is no longer on a list of top cars for Consumer Reports after the electric-car maker said it was switching to a camera-based system and dropping radar sensors in some of its cars.

I *love* my M3! But I’d buy an Aptera instead if it weren’t for the 2 person capacity limit. I think the Aptera’s efficiency, range, and cool appearance outweigh the M3’s autonomous capabilities (for me, anyway). I don’t think the switch away from radar will make any significant difference (or they wouldn’t make the change). If Aptera’s capacity is ok for you I say get one!
Well as someone who looks forward to buy a new car somewhere next year and is still undecided between a M3 and an Aptera, I say that this decision from Tesla really moved me a lot closer to Aptera.
It is really stupid to limit the ability from your self driving system to human sensoric ability.Humans are horrible driver, we are blind at night, in fog and heavy rain, why shouldn't a car still be able to work in those conditions.
I would have added infra-red cameras to the cars sensors not remove the radar.
Also I've read somewhere that they only use 36 Hz HD cameras, which means that the can not see very well.
Let's see if Tesla adds radar again or if they will kill their own self driving car program.
For me however, there is no reason to pay 10.000€ more for a Tesla than for an Aptera is the autonomous abilities are the same and the Aptera is faster with a lot more range.
The worse fast charging of the Aptera is something I can deal with.
