My first choice is for sure the Aptera. I thought i would dig deep into searching and see what else is out there, thats when i found this. Interesting but with my commute to work, the solar recharge on the Aptera is a win for me. No plugging it in for my back and forth to work 😀
Thanks Jewelry. Looks very promising. Clicks off many of my needs boxes. I like that it can tow, has a roof that I can load a kayak onto, both 400/800 volts DC fast charging, 6 levels of regen braking, power out to home or another EV, huge rear cargo area, hard switch controls on dash. Sure, I give up built in solar charging or 1000 miles range, but those to me are gimmicks and are options I will not need. 280 miles is more than I drive in an average day, and with DC fast charging, even a long trip is more than doable. No need to get used to an abnormally wide vehicle to park and garage. And less worry about other drivers getting used to my wide stance and wheel sticking out from the parking lane. What I like is that it will have a reputable service centers in many parts of the country and is being built by a company which has successfully manufactured many other successful EV's. I will gladly trade off ultra efficiency for safety, stability, ride/comfort, and reliability. After all I am getting off another carbon producing vehicle. Like I said many times before, there will be many new EV's coming out in the next 1-2 years. I am keeping open minded right now and the choice will soon decide for itself. Thanks
Yeah, this appealed a great deal to me and even more to my wife when we first got a look at it a week or two ago.
On the other hand, if it comes out north of $40k (highly likely) and is less efficient than my current ride (3.9 - 4.0 miles per kWh) then maybe not so much.
Around $30k is plenty to pay for a vehicle, and I've got to see an improvement in efficiency; not just a bigger, more capacious battery. The idea is to consume less.
@jesthorbjorn Just factor in a possible federal and state rebate which the Aptera may not get at the same level since it is not a car. Good to have time on our side to look into the many options. After everything gets reviewed by a credible third party, it is time to go on actual test rides. Your wife sounds like an intelligent shopper, not caught up on all the hype.
@OceanDragon My wife wants the huge, "safe" vehicle that will do everything. That's buying into the American auto industry hype. She doesn't drive though so I get a bit more say, at least in what I'm going to be commuting in.
To your point; it's true that I don't mind being in the six thousands for reservation number. Looking forward to lots of intelligent, critical reviews before my number comes up. If Aptera falls short of my expectations, then alas, I will walk away. Still thinking it could be that good, so patiently hopeful.

But it's not an Aptera???? :)
