Any legal beagles here? I live in New Jersey where Aptera qualifies as an autocycle, so I don't need a motorcycle license or a helmut to drive one here. However, NYS has yet to pass autocycle legislation, meaning they consider it to be a motorcycle, pure and simple. So it seems I'd need a motorcycle qualified license and a helmut to drive one there.
So would I need a motorcycle rider on my NJ license to drive through NYS?
Looks like some folks were working to get an autocycle law passed, but it was just vetoed by Gov. Cuomo a few weeks ago. (https://nyassembly.gov/leg/?bn=A05390&term=&Actions=Y&Memo=Y&Text=Y#jump_to_Actions)
Anyone here knowledgable about the status of this law? Perhaps an improved one that removed the helmut requirement for enclosed vehicles with airbags and seatbelts?
Was just researching this problem, also in NY! Thanks for posting the link. Even be fun getting a motor cycle license, it's pretty absurd as all control are just car like. So great, let's hope it's passing soon! Happy New Year :)
