My first mod: elevators & rudder! (with displacement limits to prevent generating lift @ the rear)
I want it to feel like I'm actually flying :)
Okay, I'll probably wait on that. My first mod will probably be more comfy/breathable seat cushion & upholstery. What's yours?
I've always wanted a 'Death of Rats' skull on top of my gear shifter. It seems that won't be a viable option, however, so i'll have to think of some other way to rat-ify my Aptera. :P
Oh, and the obligatory set of winter tires(With tricked out rims, perhaps?), because Canada.
a gold toilet like Trump has🤑
If there's a customizable audio option, like someone here posted, I want the car to make Jetson's sounds at slow speeds and R2D2 sounds when first encountering pedestrian traffic after being on the roadways
Adding my butt to the seat!
A faux 6 gate shifter with suction cups to attach to the center console (the best anti-theft device invented for Gen Xers and younger)
Just like leadacid, I will rip out that infernal computer screen, and replace with buttons, switches, dials and gauges... the way it should have come from the factory.
A whole lot of CANbus reverse-engineering, and make myself a physical-buttons HVAC control panel. Then delete that infernal LCD screen. They say it's more cost-effective, but any car modder knows, we'll spend a ton of our own time and money to do things the OEM shied away from.
Also, make a cargo net to keep things from flying around in the event of a panic-stop. I don't need the $$$ pet-kit since I'm not hauling actual animals, but if the mounting bosses are in the body anyway, I should be able to whip up some rings and netting without too much fuss.
Also tons of bumper stickers. The local makerspace has a vinyl cutter, so you better believe it's getting some snazzy "Last plugged in: Never!" and "Yes it's fast. No you can't drive it." and who knows what else. Probably have to stick these on either side of the third wheel skirt, though.
Good question, thanks for asking. Not off-road. 100% urban Southern California:
My own street has a 14.3% grade, with 8 1/4" curbs. Other drivers somewhat understandably aren't inclined to repark to leave adequate space between cars. That makes it even harder for me to try to squeeze in without hitting the curb.
If I wanted to actually drive anywhere, 1 block away the 2-way street narrows to under 9" clearance between an Aptera & a passing pickup IF the trucks parked on each side are both courteous enough to be only 2" from the curb AND the opposing driver has the skill to also drive under 9" from the parked cars. My 74.5" wide Fiat 500e often barely squeezes by.
If deleting wheel pants shaves just 3" from each side of the 88" wide Aptera it would give 133% as much clearance as with the pants on.
Probable 1st mod: Delete wheel covers for my 40-mile 75% city commute:
came up with a wrap logo idea
a classical weighing scale, b/c its a simple e weighing device for measuring value of trade stuff and analogically represents calculated judgement(like symbolism used in textbook liturature), representing well calculated function over art form design. Such device thus its symbolism was used historically in many parts of the world and is still used today (for ex. similar looking spring loaded ones at grocery store for weighing produce thus prices), so this symbol of calculated judgement is nearly as widley recognized as most symbols can get. the scale can have a blade in one bucket and wheat on another, blade represents functional design thats uncomfortable to use, and wheat represents comfort centered design at cost of cuntionality, both sides are balanced. blade also represents challenge like war, famine, other natural disaster etc and wheat plant prosperity, decadence. challenging experince and expericne of decadence needs to be balanced, or else too much challenge hurts like over working does as much as too much decadence makes one lazy thus not work enough for their long term wellbeing.
weighing scale and objects should be in 3rd person point of view, and a dial should be there, so observer who somehow isnt familiar with device figures its something thats measuring probably the objects in the buckets.
logo will be at front.. or maybe inside...
thought this could be a nice logo but aptera sort of is a name brand by now and losing that history connection is arguably not worth it. i saw the hydrogen car called "rasa" as in "purely singular concept", like being designed for a single purpose(on efficiency more so than normal car)
Hopefully we can modify the low speed sound this can will make to alert blind pedestrians. I want to see the reactions if mine has an idling V8 sound.
I saved the 12 volt vibrators from a massage mat my new dog destroyed. So I'll probably install them into the drivers seat.
If, by some regulatory nonsense, the Aptera is delivered without rear view cameras, my first mod will be to remove and discard antique glass mirrors and rig my own rear view cameras on each side.
flames on the sides
My first modification will be a set of numbers and see how she does on an Autocross track. With the three motors of course.😁
Low Rolling Resistance tires. Although these may yet need to be invented.
The only aspect of the vehicle that I foresee maybe wanting to change would be color. A uniform color wrap isn’t going to do it for me either. I want a gradient. And if I am transitioning from one color to another, it should be a visually interesting transition. I see the graphic advertisement vinyl wraps on busses and think, ”hmm”. Not sure how that kind of detail would work; vinyl wrapping the compound curves of an Aptera though. More research needed there. Getting the white Sol model so whatever bright color I want to put on top should be fine.
It is not expensive here for professional tinting.
About $100 for this truck’s two front door windows And they matched the manaufacture‘s tinted three glass windows very nicely
why not tape tint plastic to the window instead of paying for tint installation job?can such plastic be integrated into window so it can rolls up or down with window? if not i would tape tinted plastic to the structural pillars and when i need to rol down window, ill just lousily take of the bottom part taped by only a little tape and hold the thing up. https://www.amazon.com/tinted-plastic-sheets/s?k=tinted+plastic+sheets
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XC2FA_pJq6g tinting has more function than just some privacy or aesthetics, there is some considerable difference between types of tint so my cheap out idea wont do everything
It seems well equipped “as is” for me, with a few of its options... for my daily lifestyle.
Since all our AZ cars have tinted windows ( and needed) I would tint the two side windows. I will have full solar.
If my Off Road kit does not come with upgraded tires I might shop for an All Season set, because I only have primitive roads and monsoon season to deal with “ as Off Road” and this is not an off road vehicle, as far as I can tell at this early point. (When I hike I don’t take my vehicle to the start of the hike... I hike in!)
Since I never installed a reserve emergency battery pack on our home( with PV solar)... When I understand Aptera’s V2G possibilities ... I would pursue that.
For long trips and cross country trips I will buy a matching conventional wheel as a spare
(Even if the range hit is 1% for every 30# added)
Of course once we know what plug the Aptera will use, I will need adapters for various chargers
I have a Net Zero Home ( actually a little + ) thanks to PV solat on the house.... So I doubt I will ever need to add another PV panels for Aptera charging needs ( Aptera is our first EV)
tints and a wrap.
