Perhaps this is interesting to the four other New Yorkers who have reserved an Aptera, and posted a pin on the Future Aptera Owners map.
I emailed the following question to the New York DMV:
"I plan to purchase a 2021 Aptera. It is an all-electric, two-passenger, three-wheeled vehicle with a fully enclosed passenger compartment and standard automobile controls, I.e. a steering wheel, an accelerator pedal, and a brake pedal. It does not have motorcycle controls. https://www.aptera.us/
How do I register this vehicle?"
Answer from the NYDMV:
Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting us.
For New Registrations You Will Need to Submit the Following:

DTF-803 form (if bought from a store/dealer) OR

Proof of Insurance
Blank Check made out to commissioner of motor vehicle
Bill of Sale (if newly purchased)
The bill actually specifies that autocycles cannot be used for the road test. So, loaner anyone?
A7192A has been passed by the New York State Senate.
I think now it goes to Cuomo unless there are differences between the bills.
Also interesting that in the language of the bill it states that NY is one of only two remaining states that require a motorcycle license to operate an autocycle. Don't know what the other state is.
S6335A is now on the Senate floor calendar.
Hopefully it passes as quickly there as in the Assembly.
And it passed and has been sent to the senate. Fingers crossed.
And it passed and has been sent to the senate. Fingers crossed.
Update: A7192A is now on the Assembly floor calendar.
What this Means: The Assembly floor calendar is the list of bills that are eligible for a vote before the entire Assembly membership.
If you haven't already, call your Assembly Rep!!
Update May 14, 2021:
Assembly Bill A7192A has been assigned a "Same As" bill in the Senate: S6335A
This is good news.
In New York State, both the Senate and Assembly must pass a bill before the Governor can consider it for signature (approval) or veto (rejection). S6335A is an identical version of A7192A in the Senate. Experienced observers know that a bill with a “same as” in the alternate house is an important early sign that a bill could pass both the Senate and Assembly. It indicates that individual lawmakers in each house are supportive of the bill.
FYI, NYS autocycle bill posted an amendment to the bill today. I took the opportunity to post a comment on the bill page. Also sent follow up note to my Senator about it. Please, all feel free to add comments to that page. Maybe politicians (or their staffs) actually even read some of this.
Received reply from my Senator (below). Sent him my info for a follow up phone call. Still waiting for response from Assemblyman.
"My name is Mitchell and I work in Senator Gaughran's office. I appreciate your patience and apologize for the slow response. I personally find green tech very fascinating, but this is the first time I've heard of Aptera, and, I must say, it looks incredible. I have marked your position on the issue and will pass your message on to the legislative team and to the Senator. Furthermore, I would like to extend to you the opportunity to speak directly to the Senator on this issue by adding you to his call list. If you are interested please respond to this message with a reliable phone number that Jim can contact you at"
Assembly Bill A5390B VETOED BY GOVERNOR
2019-2020 Legislative Session
Relates to the operation of a three-wheeled vehicle
I hope that you will add to this thread as you get more info. I am not optimistic about NY recognizing autocycles anytime soon. So the questions still remain about whether we will need to take a motorcycle driving test, and will we be required to wear a helmet.
Thanks for sharing. This can be a good thread for NYers generally. In another thread I have an exchange with @Kerbe #12705 about legislation that passed NY Assembly and Senate and was vetoed by Cuomo that would have enabled use of an autocycle with normal driver's license. Right now the Aptera would still require use of a motorcycle license. Here is the bill info.
I reached out to my Assemblyman on another matter and am hoping to connect with him and ask about it soon. Will also contact my Senator.
