I was just watching a Police Stop video on YouTube. The Dash cams saved people from invalid arrests. But it did raise a thought.
Why cant we have some additional USB ports available so we dont have to run chargers and wires all over the place and have them dangling all over and otherwise in the way.
1 for the dash cam, probably on the rear view mirror
2 for the phone that we may want to suction cup to the front window for navigation
3 for the phone on the console (and a holder) should already be there
I'm sure people can think of more helpful places, like for the passenger, radar detector, whatever.
Lets do some cord management!
a single built in port and aftermarket adapters should be good enough, after market velcro can hold wires to dashboard etc if wiring becomes easy to pull out of ports accidently
Yes, it will be useful, and also we need more moderators. You can find them by looking at the resumes. topresumewritingservices is top resume review service
The best option is to have good connectivity with the phone so you don't have to have a holder to distract you. My Tesla lets you talk, of course, while connected to the phone and will read out texts and allow you to respond verbally. The car's navigation system with charging station locations obviates using the phone for this. A wireless charger would be a nice option as would a recordable dashcam which should be there anyway if the car is eventually to be self-driving. USB's are evolving and I don't know how long USB 3's will be around.
Isn't it better to provide the factory built in solution (to hide wires) instead of having to start pulling the car apart to stuff them in to hide them? Or letting the wires just dangle in your line of sight.
I think the real thing here is using the dash cam to Swivel and capture an interaction with the police. Watch some of those YouTube videos. I would think it is a requirement for .. well, almost everyone now.
If the Screen can do that, or be made to do it, great. I like that better since I would not have to buy a dash-cam. Just build it and charge me an extra $xxx. If it saves you even one trip to court, its paid for.
I considered holder for a phone, that can swivel. Then a quick control to start a video capture. But that would not capture your forward, rear, side... whatever. Its just not the same. It would have to be some new app on the phone.
I am bringing up the idea so those who know more than myself can inject some good ideas.
If we dont raise the issue, start planning for wire stuffing/routing and a $$ for a dash-cam.
The car will have cameras for rearview monitors. Hopefully it will also have a forward-facing camera, and the ability to record data from all those cameras. That would be a lot better than a power outlet for a user-supplied dashcam. A phone holder with wireless charging would be nice though.
@junk The founders have said that Aptera won't have either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay but will have its own built-in navigation system and a robust bluetooth set-up for connecting to phones.
All this will be a factory option.
I should modify the title to add "and power connectors" I dont have a DashCam yet, or a Phone in the car ... just started looking at them.
