I live the mountain area of Puerto Rico and in one route to get to my house there is a steep hill with a grade of 14%. I am wondering how is the Aptera goin to handle that kind of road. Would it be safe to travel on that particular road with a 3 wheel vehicle? I have travel this same round on a motorcycle and jeep without issue. Just wondering how would this one would fare. I guess I will find out when I get delivery some time around 2022 or 2023.
If the company has provided any information about hill climbing and hill grade, please link info or provide it.
Thanks!
It will be fine even with FWD.
My FWD 500e BEV is heavier, with less power, narrower, slipperier tires, & comparatively non-existent traction control*. It goes up the 14% grade that I live on no problem at all.
*If I floor it the wheels spin at least 1/2 revolution before the computer kicks in.
Aptera spins 1/32 revolution!
There's a FAQ at the beginning of the Technical Questions section. It says that the car can handle a 6% grade for 10 minutes. It further states that some performance degradation may occur on hot days if the time exceeds 10 minutes. The previous response said that torque shouldn't be a problem and I tend to agree. If there are issues, they may be in the Motor Controller or a limitation in the wheel motor. Perhaps ordering all wheel drive may help. Your best bet may be to check Elaphe site and/or contact them. I understand they will be supplying the motor controllers in addition to the motors. Good luck!
Torque is not an issue. As long as the tires have the necessary grip.
