Today's webinar (June 9) was wonderfully informative and full of verifications - or, at least, of "verifications du jour"!
Highlights included:
cd is now .13
improved steering/suspension geometry
stronger, easier-to-assemble body
front wheel pants will include proximity sensors
no 3rd seat option in current design - perhaps in future models
sway bar has been added to improve stability and "moose test"
increased body size with increased interior height, width and storage
to meet US requirements there will be side-view mirrors but they will have integrated cameras
This is a screen-cap of the agenda:

Would someone be kind enough to post the link to the recorded Jun 9 webinar, I'm unable to locate. Thanks!
I plan on have paint protection film installed by the guy who's done all of our cars over the last 18 years. The film he uses has a 10 year warranty but the first car he did for us still looks great.
I'll have all forward facing surfaces and wheel covers done. I'm considering covering the sides and belly as well. I'm concerned about the tires picking up grit and stones then slinging up on the sides of the car in turns. I used to get hit on my helmet frequently when I was autocrossing my MINI back in the day.
I will repeat a idea of mine as to what they may be doing. Nathan Armstrong said the shell was essentially fiberglass. I do not know if the finish on fiberglass boats and fiberglass shower stalls come out of the mold that way, or if they are sprayed with a "paint". The fiberglass of boats are different colors. This surface is smooth like what is expected on vehicles. However this is not the kind of shiny finish people expect on vehicles. Wraps are considered "cool" and their satin finish is also considered "cool".
Paint shops in automotive manufacturing plants are exceedingly expensive costing, I have heard, many millions of dollars and the cost is only recouped if there is a high throughput. This makes them a very big problem for small startup companies. Wrapping a vehicle is a way of getting around this. The smooth surfaces can from the fiberglass, and the automotive finish can come from the wrap placed on top. This makes it much easier for small start up companies.
This is purely speculation on my part, coming from my vast experience with automotive finishes (which is zero).
I was under the impression that the composite color was going to be the color of the vehicle.
Thanks for the excellent webinar. Very exciting. One question that came up in my mind is with regards to the comment Chris made about Luna. "Luna is coming. You can actually see it in the background here, the grey vehicle. We haven't wrapped it yet so it doesn't have any color on it." I thought I had heard that the composite bodies were black, not grey. The reason this is important to me is with regards to the wrapping. Anyone who has had a wrapped vehicle will tell you that when you get a rock peck, you see the original color underneath. If the composite is black, I would probably opt for the Noir or Sol vehicles, since I would fear having a "freckled nose" on the Luna. (the noses on Sol and Noir are wrapped black and if there is a tear in the wrap, the black composite underneath won't be as obvious) On the flip side, if the composite is grey, Luna would be the one to choose since it's nose is grey and any rock pecks in the wrap will be harder to see.
I'm kind of curious we haven't heard the Sandy Munro name in a long time. I wonder if somethings up?
I watched the webinar today. Thanks for uploading it so quickly! I'm only disappointed that the time was so short. I would have loved to see updates on actual interior dimensions, though I realize those are probably still in flux. The hint of a lower rear storage floor is great. I also didn't hear about V2H. Again, I suspect still in development.
Excellent webinar, guys (and Sarah!) I forgot to pose my question: do you have Ackermann steering geometry, or is there a plan for it?
It turns the outboard wheel more than the inboard wheel, which greatly improves large input transient response (like in the Moose test) and confidence at the limits of adhesion--makes rainy and bad condition driving more safe.
You should be all good now! Sorry about that!
Yup.
Thanks but video is listed as private
For anyone who missed it, here's the link to the Beta Development Webinar. http://bit.ly/apterabeta
The 2008 model was more like .15 as I remember.
It's been .13 mostly except the CTO claimed a bit less (0.128?) a few weeks ago. Does the current .13 now include the side mirrors?
What was the previous drag coefficient?
I am happy to hear all the positive feedback! 😁 We'll get the recording downloaded and share it in the next day or so. Thanks for your support!
This was an absolutely excellent presentation! Full of detailed design information.
This was the first time I heard of Rousch being involved. Aptera is bringing in the experts! Top quality.
Did I see Alpha 3? I joined about 30 m in, hope to see the rest soon in a recorded version. Quick question: I saw several shots with Steve and Chris with the shop in the background. It seemed that sol was there to the left. In the center, further back, was a grey Aptera, partially assembled. Anybody else curious if this is the third alpha? Other suggestions?
It's nice to see such transparency from a startup (Live webinars), and on a regular basis. Reinforces my confidence in the team that they are working diligently toward having a production ready vehicle on schedule and working on improving the design based on actual prototype testing and results of reviews conducted by prominent auto engineering vendors. Best you see from potential competitors are computer generated scripted videos. Also good to see interaction with leadership/engineering answering real world questions from participants in the Aptera Forum. That certainly takes courage and shows their confidence in their evolving product.
Now we need to support these efforts by directly contributing to their efforts and encouraging others to do the same by getting the word out. We want them to have the capital to produce and deliver this exceptional machine
I'm sure it'll be available in a day or two like the previous times. I really must work on my immediate gratification challenges.
I had the furnace guy show up 5 minutes into the webinar, so I missed all but that first introduction. If anyone recorded it, please share.
I did a search on YouTube for "Aptera Webinar" and came up with a few. Not todays. Wouldn't that be a nice space to store them all. No weight on the Aptera servers either. 9:00 AM San Diego is 6:00 AM Kona, Hawaii. That's not so bad but New Zealand would definitely be in the "I'll catch it on YouTube" category.
As usual: Thanks Kerbe.
When / How will it be available for review?
