It doesn't add much weight, but it IS mass that needs to be accelerated rotationally, so the difference will probably mostly be around town where range isn't an issue anyway. Spreading the same drive power over more motors & controllers may compensate at least partially, due to less heat waste, & more surface area to dissipate it.
