Would it be possible to either have an up / down position for the 3 wheel covers for off-roading or wheel change? Alternatively take off easily and store in the boot (aussi for trunk) for off-roading? Like most 4WD off-roading is actually a very small percentage of driving and it would be sad to compromise efficiency here.

lower part of wheel cover can slide under the top part when it hits a curb or something, the piece can be round shaped so that if it hits at any side, it will slide upward, and it should be made of rubber so doesn't break easily and so its cheap. The edges made of some slippery material so rubber grip doesn't grip whatever is contacting it, having less impact energy that rubber has to absorb. if bearings of the sliding mechanism can be used often as they would be in off roading, the lower part can be locked into place and released with some metal wire being pulled by a dial in clockwise or counterclockwise manner, one way for moving covers up and locked and other way for having them down. pulleys allow wire to transport movement around corners of cars. lock can be mechanically engaged when dial is spun at a limit, in this case limit is automatically felt when covers can be pulled up any more and dials cant be spun futhur. such pulley system is good to replace servo motors where there isnt too much space restraint
